PVNA December Board Meeting Summary
The PVNA December Board Meeting was held on December 15 at the Ward 6 office. About 15 neighbors and Board members participated in person with others joining by Zoom.
We received updates from Ward 6 from Dora Maldonado, Ward 6 council aide and information about current Tucson COVID, flu and RSV rates from Nicholas McCullough, special staff assistant to District 5 supervisor, Adelita Grijalva. We also heard from Britany Smith from Youth on Their Own about their purpose and plans to move and expand.
Catch up on recent happenings, and be sure to RSVP for our January meeting happening in 2023. At that meeting, the developer for the site at Camilla and Pima is expected to present future plans and answer questions.
Save the date for Saturday, January 21, 10am to 12pm when we will host a neighborhood New Year social event at the Catalina High School playground.
Board draft minutes coming soon.

Updates from Pima County:
Dr. Cullen Health Department Update (as of 12/14/2022):
Here are the main takeaways from today’s health department press conference.
· We are in high transmission for COVID, which means over 200/100,000. There is an uptick in hospital bed utilization.
· The Health department hopes that we are at the peak of RSV transmission and that we will see a reduction. We are at a 9x higher transmission rate for RSV than normal years, and the Country is at 13x higher. The majority of cases are in the younger population, and diagnoses are by symptoms, not lab tests.
· The Flu is 8-10x higher than normal this year. It started earlier and has a more intense case load.
· The Health department recommends vaccination, masking in indoor social situations, and staying home if you are sick. In terms of holiday gatherings, they suggest limiting indoor holiday gatherings with people outside your family.
· There is a shortage of children’s medication, which the County cannot do much about.
· Hospital beds are used at a high rate currently.
· There is probably 8 weeks of immunity after infection from COVID.
· Age is the most important risk factor with regards to COVID.
